Hubertushof Manor

The origins of Hubertushof lie in a moated castle that once served as the ancestral seat of the noble family von Merzenhausen. This knightly lineage died out around 1400, after which the Lords of Streithagen took over ownership. A resident was Elisabeth von Streithagen, the mother of Jan von Werth. After the Streithagen family died out approximately 300 years later and further inheritances, the complex fell into disrepair. In the mid-17th century, the current Hubertushof was built on the remaining ruins. In 1805, Johann Joseph Gottfried Opfergelt acquired the property, whose family had previously managed it as tenants. The estate remained in the direct family line until the death of Barthel Opfergelt in 1913, before passing to his nephew and godchild Barthel Weitz.
