Huis Duin en Kruidberg

Huis Duin en Kruidberg Castle, located in Santpoort-Noord in the province of Noord-Holland, is an example of Dutch Renaissance Revival architecture. Originally built as a summer residence for wealthy Amsterdam merchants, it developed into an estate, now considered one of the largest country houses in the Netherlands.
History+
The origins of Duin en Kruidberg date back to the 17th century when it served as a summer retreat for affluent Amsterdam merchants. Later, it became a hunting lodge for the Prince of Orange, the future King William III. It was here, in the late 17th century, that plans for the invasion of England were forged, leading to the Glorious Revolution of 1688. In the 19th century, the estate merged with the neighboring Duin en Berg. The current castle was constructed around 1900 by Jacob Theodoor Cremer in the Dutch Renaissance Revival architectural style.
