Humpi Castle

The origins of the site date back to 1274, when Brochenzell was owned by the Counts of Heiligenberg. The first mention of a castle here occurred in 1277, in connection with its sale to Count Hugo von Werdenberg. In 1401, the damaged castle passed to Konrad Ruh, a citizen of Konstanz, then to Hans von Hewen, and finally to the Counts of Montfort. A turning point came in 1447 when the Lords of Humpis acquired the lordship of Brochenzell from Count Hugo X. von Montfort. Around the mid-16th century, they constructed a small castle in place of the old one. A renovation of Humpisschloss took place in 1624, adding a corner tower and a fountain.
