Hutten Castle (Altengronau)

The Huttenburg was built between 1548 and 1552 by Alexander von Hutten as a Renaissance castle. It is believed that building materials from an earlier, destroyed Huttian defensive structure in Altengronau were used for its construction. The line of the von Hutten zu Gronau, founded by Alexander, died out in 1627 with the death of Adam von Hutten. After its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the estates were sold in 1648 by Philipp Daniel von Hutten zu Sannerz to Amalie Elisabeth von Hanau-Münzenberg.
