Inveraray Castle in Scotland is situated on the shores of Loch Fyne. As the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll, a branch of the Campbell clan, it combines historical importance with architectural splendor.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1457, when Colin Campbell, the 1st Earl of Argyll, had an initial fortification erected in Inveraray. This early structure was not used permanently and fell into disrepair. In the 18th century, plans for a new building materialized. Following an initial sketch by John Vanbrugh, initiated by Colin's descendant John, Archibald Campbell, the 3rd Duke of Argyll, made the decision for a new castle. To facilitate the construction, the original village of Inveraray was relocated and rebuilt about a mile away.
