Isenburger Castle (Offenbach)

The history of Isenburg Castle begins with a moated castle built in 1394 by Count Werner III of Falkenstein. The current castle was constructed in the 16th century under the Isenburg noble family and completed in 1559. Just five years later, in 1564, it burned down. The subsequent reconstruction led to the creation of the galleries on the south side, which are still preserved today. The castle was the site of important historical events, including congresses on imperial constitutional reform in 1741. During the Thirty Years' War, King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden resided here. Until 1883, the painter Leopold Bode had a studio in the castle.
