Fürstenlager Hunting Lodge, also known as Fürstenlager Auerbach, is a historical ensemble in Bensheim-Auerbach. Originally built around 1790 as a summer residence for the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt, it has a park in the style of an early English garden, housing court buildings arranged like a village.

History+

The complex was established around 1790 by the Landgraves and later Grand Dukes of Hesse-Darmstadt as a summer residence. The name “Fürstenlager” (Princes' Camp) originated because the local population could observe their rulers “camping” in the meadows, as the park remained open to the public even during high-ranking visits. After the death of the ducal couple around 1829/30, Fürstenlager lost its significance.
