Grünau Castle

The construction of Grünau Hunting Lodge began around 1530, commissioned by the Wittelsbach Count Palatine Ottheinrich for his wife Susanna of Bavaria. Initially, a residential tower-like core building was erected, which was subsequently supplemented by various wings enclosing a courtyard. The original room layout in the core building, including the dining hall, stately apartments, and other rooms, is still recognizable today. Numerous wall paintings, mostly started by Jörg Breu the Younger and later completed, adorn the interior. Although originally surrounded by moats, these have since silted up. The castle is now owned by the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds.
