Iburg Hunting Lodge, also known as the Old Freudenthal Forester's House, is a princely episcopal estate dating back to the late 16th century. Located in Bad Iburg, Lower Saxony, it once served as a representative building for the Prince-Bishops of Osnabrück.

History+

The origins of the hunting lodge trace back to 1595, when Philipp Sigismund von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, the Protestant Prince-Bishop of Osnabrück, had the Freudenthal House built. It was a two-story half-timbered building with a hip roof, situated below the castle hill in a specially designed pleasure garden. The residence of the bishops and prince-bishops of Osnabrück was located in the nearby Iburg Castle from 1100 to 1672. Under Franz Wilhelm von Wartenberg, a later prince-bishop, the hunting lodge was dismantled in 1650 and rebuilt in the Thiergarten, now the Waldkurpark.
