Josefslust Castle

The Josefslust Hunting Lodge ("Jagdschlösschen") in the "Faulbronn" forest is located 250 meters west of the main entrance of the Josefslust Wildlife Park. It was built in 1727 by the enthusiastic hunter Prince Josef Friedrich. In 1830, the hunting lodge was erected in place of the old hunting lodge and served as the Princely Hohenzollern Forest Ranger's office. A metal sign in the archway recently still indicated its former function.

Until a few years ago, the Josefslust Hunting Lodge housed, in a display case located in the archway, the stuffed animal specimen of the last wolf killed in Hohenzollern territory. It was shot on January 18, 1831, near Gauselfingen, after it had broken into sheepfolds near Kettenacker, Harthausen, and Feldhausen in June 1830 and killed three sheep. In the meantime, the aged trophy, called "Isegrim" by the local population, was restored and moved to the "Hubertussaal" at Sigmaringen Castle.

In 1956, after 20 years of living in the head gamekeeper's house, the Fischer family was allowed to move into the so-called "Schlössle".

After renovation and conversion by the "Hohenzollern Architects" (Ferdinand von Hohenzollern, Berlin) in 2006, the Josefslust Hunting Lodge with its wrought-iron window grilles shines in new splendor. The hunting lodge is inhabited by Albrecht Johannes Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (* August 3, 1954, at Umkirch Castle), son of Friedrich Wilhelm von Hohenzollern, his wife Nathalie Viets-Rocabado (* November 10, 1970, in Hamburg) and daughter Josephine Princess of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (* October 31, 2002) and is not accessible to the public.

In the vicinity of the hunting lodge, ceramic finds dating back to the Flavian period have been made in the past.
