Jagsheimisches Castle

The "Schlösschen" is located in theath the heart of the old town of Bietigheim, directly adjacent to the town church. It is one of the oldest and most historically significant buildings in the town.

The origins of the "Schlösschen" date back to the 13th century. At that time, it was a moated castle, probably built by the Lords of Bietigheim. It served to protect the ford across the Enz and to control the trade routes.

In the 15th century, the small castle was expanded. In 1765, a new building was constructed by the Lords of Jagsheim.

The "Schlösschen" is a three-story stone building with a hipped roof. The facades are plastered and structured by corner quoins and window frames. Particularly striking is the bay window on the south side, which is adorned with rich Renaissance ornamentation.

Inside, historical ceiling paintings and wall paneling have been preserved. The former knight's hall on the first floor is particularly impressive with its stucco ceiling and large fireplace.

Over the centuries, the "Schlösschen" has had various owners. In the 15th century, it came into the possession of the Counts of Württemberg, who used it as an administrative seat and hunting lodge. Later, it was owned by various noble families, including the Lords of Sachsenheim and the Lords of Jagsheim.

In the 19th century, the "Schlösschen" was converted into a residential building. For a time, it also housed a school and a post office.

Today, the "Schlösschen" is owned by the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen. After extensive renovation, it has been used as a cultural and event center since 2003. It houses the city gallery, the city archive, and rooms for events and conferences.

The "Schlösschen" is a living testimony to the history of Bietigheim-Bissingen and an important meeting place for citizens and guests.
