Jesuitenkolleg Erfurt

The Jesuit College in Erfurt was founded in 1611. Four years later, in 1615, the Jesuits took over the premises of the former Reglerstift. The educational institution started with five classes and expanded its offerings with an upper class in 1618, before receiving official recognition in 1619. Due to the Swedish occupation, the Jesuits left the city in 1631 but returned in 1658 and intensified their activities. At that time, the college comprised twelve members, including priests for pastoral care, masters, and brothers. A new college building was erected in 1737 and served as their residence and workplace until the suppression of the Jesuits in 1773. From 1822, the building was utilized as a schoolhouse.

The Jesuit College is situated in the city of Erfurt in Thuringia, Germany. It is located on the Anger, at the beginning of Schlösserstraße, and is a striking structure in the heart of the city.

The building is considered one of Erfurt's most important Baroque structures and features a representative display facade facing Schlösserstraße. The currently dominant east facade towards the Anger, which was originally adjacent to a narrow alley and therefore minimally adorned, only became visible in 1977 after the demolition of houses in front of it. Today, the former Jesuit College serves as a commercial building.
