Adenau Castle

The commandry ("Kommende") was a branch of the spiritual knightly order of the Knights Hospitaller, mainly responsible as an administrative unit for the management of its estates, but also providing hospitality to the poor, pilgrims and traveling members of the order. Today the building serves as a meeting place. It is located – as is the local history museum – in the center of Adenau, in the immediate vicinity of the town hall and district court as well as the parish church of St. Johannes. After years of planning, the Johanniter Commandry will be handed over to municipal ownership on September 1, 2020. A corresponding contract was concluded on April 30, 2020, between the previous owner, the Catholic parish of the Adenau municipality, and the city of Adenau.
