Junkernhof Manor

The manor house was built in 1635 on the walls of a previous building by the Lords of Uttensen.

The building is a two-story plastered brick building with a hipped roof. The facade is characterized by regularly arranged window axes and a central entrance portal.

Inside, historical stucco ceilings and wall paintings have been preserved in several rooms, testifying to the artistic taste of the former residents.

From the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Period

The history of the site dates back to the Middle Ages. Archaeological finds suggest a fortified complex from the 12th century. The first documentary mention as "Castrum Uttensen" dates from 1280.

After several changes of ownership, the estate came into the possession of the Lords of Uttensen in the early 17th century, who then had the present manor house built.

Changes and Renovations

In the following centuries, the manor house underwent various changes. In the 18th century, a baroque garden was laid out, of which only remnants are preserved today.

Extensive renovations took place in the late 19th century, which mainly affected the interior. At that time, the building was adapted to the Wilhelminian style.

Today, the manor house serves as a cultural center and museum. Regular exhibitions, concerts, and lectures take place here. The historical rooms can also be rented for private events.

A permanent exhibition informs visitors about the history of the house and the region.
