Reistingen Abbey

The foundation of Reistingen Monastery occurred before 1250, established by the Counts of Dillingen. Initially, it was likely a Benedictine monastery, which became established by the mid-13th century. During the course of the 13th or 14th century, it transformed into a collegiate church for canonesses. In the 14th century, the monastery was consecrated to Saint Peter; today, it is dedicated to Saints Peter and Vitus. In 1450, the collegiate church was dissolved by order of Pope Nicholas V, with its assets being transferred to the episcopal mensa of Augsburg. A portion of the resulting income was used by the bishop in 1465 for the acquisition of liturgical books for his court chapel in Dillingen.

The former Canonesses' Collegiate Church is located in Reistingen, a district of the municipality of Ziertheim in Bavaria, Germany. Its geographical position is at an elevation of approximately 498 meters above sea level.

The former collegiate church of Reistingen Monastery now serves as a parish church and is dedicated to Saint Vitus.
