The Capuchin Monastery of Ellwangen, a historic monastic complex, is situated in the Ostalb region of Baden-Württemberg. It is distinguished by its long history and its prominent location within the town of Ellwangen.
History+
The Capuchin Monastery in Ellwangen was founded in 1656. The Capuchin order, a Franciscan reform movement, established a branch here. Over the centuries, the monastery significantly influenced the religious and social life of the region. As part of the secularization process at the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery was dissolved in 1803. The buildings were subsequently repurposed.
