Kapuzinerkloster Rottweil

The founding of the Capuchin Monastery in Rottweil dates back to 1623, when the city requested the establishment of a monastery after a sermon by the order. The foundation stone for the first monastery was laid in 1627, but by 1632 it fell victim to an attack by Württemberg troops and was burned down. A second monastery construction began in 1651 at Thummelhof, and its church was consecrated in 1655. Over time, the monastery underwent various administrative affiliations within the Capuchin Order until it was dissolved in 1805 as part of the secularization by the Württemberg state government. The monks were relocated, and the monastery buildings were sold and repurposed, including as an inn.

The former Capuchin Monastery is located in the historic city of Rottweil, which lies in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The city is known for its rich history and its location in the upper Neckar valley.

The former monastery complex was extensively redeveloped between 2008 and 2011 and now serves as a multi-generational house. This modern use integrates the historical structures into a contemporary living concept.
