The Capuchin Monastery of St. Barbara was founded around the year 1640. For more than a century and a half, the Capuchins shaped the spiritual life in Bernkastel-Kues. The monastery's existence ended with the secularization in 1802, when it was dissolved like many other ecclesiastical institutions during that period.
