Kapuzinerkloster Traunstein

Capuchin monks first preached in Traunstein in 1627 and occupied a hospice near St. Oswald's Church in 1630. The monastery at its current site was founded in 1685. Between 1687 and 1690, the monastery church was constructed and dedicated in 1690 to the Most Holy Trinity. The monastery was dissolved in 1805 as part of the secularization. Subsequently, the church was used as a granary, while parts of the monastic complex were demolished. Later, the Traunstein magistrate acquired the buildings, establishing a girls' school and a home for toddlers. After the girls' school relocated in 1895 and further demolitions, the church was finally closed in 1978 and acquired by the city in 1986. Since 1994, the monastery church has served as a concert and exhibition venue, and a remaining part of the monastery has housed the Municipal Gallery since 1980. The area was converted into an art and cultural center between 2017 and 2018, completed in 2019.

The former monastic complex now hosts the Kulturforum Klosterkirche, serving as an art and cultural center. It includes a concert and exhibition hall, as well as the Municipal Gallery Traunstein.
