Kapuzinerkloster Vilshofen

The Capuchins were called to Vilshofen in 1638 to deliver Lenten sermons. The official founding of the monastery, dedicated to Saint Vitus, took place in 1642. The foundation stone for the actual monastery building was laid on May 17, 1644. The consecration of the monastery church by the Auxiliary Bishop Ulrich of Passau was completed on April 23, 1651. After a fire in the local parish church in 1794, the monastery church temporarily served as the parish church for the community. In the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1802, and the convent was relocated to Wasserburg am Inn. In 1804, the brewer Johann Georg Wieninger acquired the buildings and part of the garden, while the district judge Schattenhofer received the other part. Later, parts of the monastery and the church were destroyed.

The former Capuchin Monastery is situated in Vilshofen an der Donau, a town in Bavaria, Germany, within the Diocese of Passau.

The former monastery buildings and church were partially destroyed after secularization and have lost their original function. The exact current use or condition of the remaining structures is not detailed.
