Carmelite Monastery Dinkelsbühl

The Carmelite Monastery Dinkelsbühl is a former monastery of the Carmelites in Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria.

The monastery, dedicated to St. Catherine, was founded in 1290 by Würzburg Carmelites. They built it on borrowed or gifted land from the former Staufer estate at the Wörnitz ford. It was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization. After the dissolution of the monastery, the buildings housed a brewery, a salt warehouse, an evangelical children's asylum, and a girls' high school. In 1812, the evangelical parish acquired the monastery property and the Carmelite church by purchase. The old church was demolished in 1839. From 1840 to 1843, a new Protestant main church in the classical style was erected on the foundations. The inauguration took place on November 19, 1843. In 1924, the church building was named St. Paul. The former monastery buildings today house the community center of the Evangelical-Lutheran Parish, the evangelical kindergarten St. Paul, and the Vocational School for Music of the District of Middle Franconia.
