The establishment of the Carmelite monastery in Moers took place in 1441. For over 150 years, the monks of the Carmelite order shaped the spiritual life at this location. The monastery was dedicated to Saint Mary. In the course of the Reformation and the associated changes, the monastery was finally dissolved and secularized in 1597, bringing its function as a religious institution to an end.
