Karmelitinnenabbey Düren

The Carmelite Monastery Düren is a contemplative Catholic monastery of the Discalced Carmelites (OCD) in Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Carmel was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by the Cologne Carmel Maria vom Frieden. A plot of land on Kölner Landstraße in Düren was purchased, and construction of the new monastery began there in 1902. It was occupied on August 24, 1903. The church was consecrated six days later. The high monastery wall and the bell tower were built in 1905. In the same year, the city of Düren donated the crucifixion group to the Carmelites, which is registered as monument no. 121 in the list of monuments. It previously stood on Kölner Platz.

War-related renovation work after the Second World War dragged on until 1950. Due to the high number of new entries, the Carmel in Zweifall was founded in 1955, to which eight sisters moved. In 2013, there are 21 people in the monastery.

Until 1965, the nuns operated a host bakery, from 1965 to 1968 a paraments workshop, and since 1969 a bookbinding shop.
