The Karrasburg in Coswig, northwest of Dresden in the district of Meißen, is a moated castle that now houses the municipal museum.

History+

Around 1420, the Karras family, a noble lineage, assumed feudal lordship over Coswig. In the 15th century, they resided in a castle surrounded by a defensive wall and a moat. In 1496, Nickel von Karras had a church built for 750 Rhenish guilders, its portal adorned with the coats of arms of the Karras and Pöllnitz families. After Hans and Georg Karras sold the estate to Elector August I in 1556 for over 15,000 guilders, the manor house was converted into a forester's lodge. A fire in 1726 damaged the property.
