Kasteel Marquette
The Kasteel Marquette is located in Heemskerk in the Dutch province of North Holland.
The castle dates go back to the mid-13th Century and was part of the fortification line against the West Frisians. It was inhabited by the Lords of Heemskerk.
The lords of Heemskerk came regularly with neighboring lords and peasants in dispute. The Heemskerk Castle was in 1358 besieged by Dirk van Polanden. After eleven weeks had to capitulate Wouter van Heemskerk. In 1380 the family got back to the castle, but without the feudal rights. In 1426, the castle was of Kennemerer farmers led by Willem Nagel looted. In the 15th Century the ownership changed to the Lords van Assendelft.
1610 transferred the ownership of Daniël de Hertaing Lord Marquette. In 1613 he received permission to rename the property in Marquette.
