Kasteel Verhildersum is a historic castle in the Dutch province of Groningen, near the village of Leens. It is distinguished by its long history, dating back to the late Middle Ages, making it a significant testament to regional architectural heritage.
History+
The origins of Verhildersum lie in a manor farm, which was mentioned as early as 1398 under the name Aylko Ferhildema. A castle was later built on this estate. In 1514, the castle suffered destruction but was subsequently rebuilt. A significant event was the death of its owner, Aepke Onsta, in 1564. Twelve years later, in 1576, Ecke Claessen was named as a resident of the estate.
