Bohus Castle
Bohus Castle, an impressive edifice, is located in the locality of Șiria in Romania. It stands out not only for its architecture but also for its historical significance, particularly during the Hungarian Revolution.
History+
The Bohus family commissioned the construction of the castle in the first half of the 19th century. In 1824, the so-called “lower castle” was built, followed by the “upper castle” in 1834. The latter, situated amidst an extensive park, played a crucial role during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/49. In one of its halls, now the library, the unconditional surrender of the Hungarian revolutionaries was signed on August 13, 1849, after the imperial Austrian troops and Russian reinforcements defeated the insurgents.
