Katharinenhof Kranenburg

The foundation of the Katharinenhof dates back to 1446, when Henrik Housteen, the master chef of the Duke of Cleves, enabled the establishment of a branch of a convent in Kranenburg. The sisters adopted the Augustinian Rule in 1472 and formed a spiritual community until the secularization in 1802. After the dissolution of the monastery, the buildings served various secular purposes, including as a police station and a school. Only slightly damaged in World War II, the old convent building was briefly used as an emergency church after 1945 before undergoing extensive renovation in 1959/60. Since 1961, it has housed the Museum Katharinenhof, whose exhibition space was expanded in 1984 by an extension.

The Katharinenhof is located in Kranenburg, a municipality in the district of Cleves in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The complex is situated at an elevation of approximately 16 meters above sea level.

Today, the Katharinenhof serves as a museum and is a protected architectural monument. The museum is operated by the Verein für Heimatschutz 1922 e. V. Kranenburg and offers insights into local history and culture.
