Cathédrale Saint-Front

The Cathedral of Périgueux, also known as Saint-Front Cathedral, is the episcopal church of the Diocese of Périgueux and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France."
History+
The origins of the cathedral date back to the 6th century, when a first church was erected on this site in honor of Saint Fronto, who served as a missionary in the Dordogne. In the 11th century, a large abbey was established. Following a military attack in the 12th century, the abbey and the old church were abandoned and replaced by the current building, which was completed around 1170. The cathedral combines Romanesque and Byzantine elements, is designed as a domed cruciform church in the shape of a Greek cross, and is crowned by five domes.
