Schwallungen Castle

The first verifiable rulers in Schwallungen were Sigifrid von Schwallungen in 1057 and Brun von Schwallungen in 1230. Around 1200-30, a stone residential tower was erected on the walls of a wooden predecessor building. Ownership changed in 1341 to Hertwich von Swallungen, later to Knight Wolfram Schrimp, in 1382 as a fief to Fritz Marschalk von Ostheim, in 1463 as a fief to Heinrich Reuenthal, in 1529 as a fief to Lorenz Reps. In 1537, it was expanded into a residential house. In 1894, the half-timbered upper floor was demolished, and in 1920, emergency housing for workers was established. After the reunification in 1990, the gable roof was renewed. From 2006-13, the entire building was renovated.
