In the English county of Warwickshire, Kenilworth Castle is a ruin known for its water defenses.
History+
The origins of Kenilworth Castle date back to around 1120, when the first Norman fortification was built. Saxon structures are said to have existed here earlier. At the beginning of the 13th century, the castle underwent significant expansion under King John. The complex was extended and almost entirely constructed from red sandstone. The castle also gained literary significance when Sir Walter Scott wrote a novel in 1821 about Queen Elizabeth I's visit.
