Kensington Palace in London is a castle that once served as a residence for British monarchs. It is situated in Kensington Gardens and is now a museum.

History+

The origins of Kensington Palace date back to 1689, when Mary II and William III acquired the estate and had it redesigned by Sir Christopher Wren to escape the dampness of Whitehall Palace in winter. Under George I and George II, it was furnished, receiving state apartments with ceiling decorations by William Kent, as well as a collection of furniture and paintings. After the death of George II in 1760, the palace lost its significance as the main residence of reigning monarchs.
