St. Cyriakus Church

The earliest documentary references to the Church of St. Cyriakus date back to the mid-15th century, when an expansion of the existing church was carried out under Archpriest Eberhard von Grumbach. A phase was the Echter period from 1592, when Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn promoted the Counter-Reformation in the Reichtal. During this time, the Franconian Echter tower was erected and the choir was set up on the ground floor. The nave adjoined to the west, and the late Gothic church interior was consecrated in the summer of 1605 by Auxiliary Bishop Eucharius Sang. In 1738, construction began on the current Baroque nave, initiated by parish vicar Johann Sigismund Kilian and based on plans originally designed for Greßthal by Balthasar Neumann.
