Hüttenheim Church Castle

The fortified church was built in the 13th century. In 1596, the town hall was built in front of the fortified church complex and a new gate was erected. In 1886, the ruinous upper floors of the fortified church, mainly on the north side of the complex, were demolished down to one floor.

Already in 1958, the complex was very damaged and was provisionally repaired with 20,000 DM. The fortified church is hardly used anymore. Demolition was discussed. In 1985, the municipality took over abandoned Gaden (storage buildings) and renovation began. In two construction phases, the entire complex was finally restored in the years 2000-2001 at a cost of 600,000 Euros.

The Hüttenheim fortified church is one of the largest preserved Gaden fortified churches in Franconia. A special feature are the many "Kellerhälse", as the cellar entrances are called, which were only built later to enlarge the cellar space. The mighty walls of the fortified church still clearly show the former importance of this complex. The Hüttenheim fortified church complex is a special attraction in the Franconian Wine Paradise.
