Iptingen Churchcastle

Due to the ending of the place name in -ingen, Iptingen can be regarded as an Alemannic foundation from the period before 500 AD. The earliest documentary mention of Iptingen dates back to around 1120. On February 4, 1206, King Philip confirmed the return of the property in Iptingen, which Ulrich von Iptingen had first given to Maulbronn Monastery, but later sold to the Count Palatine of Tübingen, by the latter to the monastery. A prominent historic building in Iptingen is the fortified church, which dates back to an old castle first mentioned in a document in 1194. The current church tower, apart from the later added half-timbered section with clock and bells, is still the old castle. Around 1250, the ring barns, which are still preserved today, were added for storage.
