In Lower Franconia, the fortified church of Ostheim encloses St. Michael's city church. It is considered one of Germany's largest and best-preserved fortified churches, distinguished by its double curtain wall with an outer bailey, defensive towers, and bastions. Within its walls, it houses numerous vaulted cellars and granaries that once offered protection to the population during wartime.
