In the valley of the Franconian Saale, the church ruin of Aura rises. Situated on a small hill near the village of the same name, in the district of Bad Kissingen, it tells of plans thwarted by history.

History+

The origins of the church ruin of Aura date back to the early 17th century. In 1618, the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, Johann Gottfried I von Aschhausen, commissioned the construction of a pilgrimage church. However, this project was abruptly halted by the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War and the death of the Prince-Bishop, so the church was never completed and remained a ruin.
