Klarissenkloster Heilbronn

The origins of the Poor Clares' Convent date back to the late 13th century when Poor Clares from Flein relocated to Heilbronn. The official establishment of the convent in Heilbronn took place in 1301. The move to the city was approved in 1302 by Bishop Mangold of Würzburg, after the rural location in Flein proved unsuitable for monastic life during times of crisis. Pope Clement V confirmed all existing freedoms for the convent in 1310. In the 15th century, the convent owned extensive lands and rights in numerous surrounding localities. In addition to managing these estates, a weaving mill, a host bakery, a wax chandlery, and paraments embroidery also contributed to the sisters' livelihood. In December 1465, the convent was reformed as part of the internal Observant movement and papal reforms. During the Reformation, the Poor Clares adhered to the Catholic faith, which led to conflicts with the Heilbronn city council. The council attempted to reform monastic practices and restricted religious exercise. During the Thirty Years' War, the convent was granted to the city by Swedish troops in 1632 and burned down during the siege of Heilbronn in 1634. After being returned to the order, it was rebuilt. Secularization in 1803 ended the official existence of the convent, although the community continued until 1811. Most of the convent buildings were demolished in 1876 and 1889.

The former Poor Clares' Convent was located in the city of Heilbronn in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its central location in the city, at approximately 169 meters above sea level, offered the Poor Clares protection and good access to urban infrastructure.

Today, only Klarastraße and a remnant of a wall in Siebeneichgasse in Heilbronn serve as reminders of the former Poor Clares' Convent. The historical buildings are largely no longer preserved.
