Adersleben Abbey

The origins of Adersleben Monastery date back to the 13th century. Around 1260, a Cistercian convent was established here, initially affiliated with the Burchardi Monastery in Halberstadt. The official consecration by Bishop Volrad von Kranichfeld took place in December 1260, with the existing village church serving as the monastery church. In 1270, the local church was fully incorporated into the monastery. Over the following centuries, the monastery experienced a turbulent history, marked by looting during the Peasants' War in 1525 and the Schmalkaldic War in 1547. The Thirty Years' War also left its mark when the complex was seized by Swedish troops in 1631.
