Music academy

Kloster Altstadt, a former Franciscan foundation, is located in Bad Kissingen, Bavaria. The complex now houses a music academy.

History+

The Kloster Altstadt was founded in 1649 by the Thuringian Observant Province of St. Elisabeth. Initially conceived as a hospice, it became a full convent from 1655. The monastery was spared from secularization. Between 1926 and 1971, it served as a boys' seminary for the Franciscans before briefly housing a police academy. Since 1980, part of the premises has been used by the Bavarian Music Academy. The Chapel Way of the Cross was established around the monastery in 1733.
