The first documented mention of Kloster Auhausen dates to 1136. The Benedictine monastery was founded in the early 12th century by local nobility and was dedicated to Saints Mary and Godehard. Throughout its history, the monastery acquired extensive properties, both in the immediate vicinity and in more distant regions, through donations, purchases, and exchanges. A notable feature was the “Große Spend” (Great Alms), an annual charitable donation to the needy, which continued even after the monastery's dissolution. In 1232, the parish church of Auhausen was incorporated into the monastery. The monastery's existence concluded in 1534 with its dissolution and secularization.
