Beyharting Abbey

The foundation of Beyharting Monastery dates back to around 1130, established by Judith, the widow of the nobleman Tageno von Pihartingen. The complex was consecrated to Saint John the Baptist. Around 1420, the church and cloister underwent a Gothicization. Between 1668 and 1670, the church was extensively redesigned and refurnished. Artistic enhancement occurred around 1730, when Johann Baptist Zimmermann adorned the church with stucco and frescoes. In 1803, the monastery was dissolved as part of the secularization. The monastic buildings passed into private ownership, while the monastery church became a parish church.
