Kloster der Karmelitinnen Witten

The origins of the monastery date back to 1933, when it was founded in Pawelwitz near Breslau. After the completion of the first construction phase in 1935, the community experienced a forced closure and confiscation by the National Socialist government in 1941. The nuns subsequently found refuge in the Ursuline convent in Breslau. In 1946, the Carmelites joined the refugee treks and initially found temporary accommodation in Welden near Augsburg and later in Neuburg Castle. At the suggestion of Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger of Paderborn, the sisters were given a suitable plot of land in Witten-Annen. The current monastery building was erected there in 1954. The solemn consecration of the monastery church by Archbishop Jaeger took place on November 18, 1956.

The monastery is located in Witten-Annen, a town in the Ennepe-Ruhr district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on a south-facing slope of the Ardey Hills.

Today, the monastery's main source of income is the baking of communion wafers, which secures the community's livelihood.
