Kloster der Salesianerinnen mit Schule

The foundation of Oberroning Monastery took place in 1838 by the local clergyman Johann Baptist Gahr. Ten years later, in 1848, a girls' elementary school and a boarding school were opened. In 1863, the sisters joined the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary. The monastery building underwent extensive expansions over time. New educational institutions such as a teacher training college (1895) and a higher girls' school (1911) were established. During World War II, in 1943, the monastery served as a military hospital, with the sisters involved in nursing. By 1946, school operations could be resumed. The monastery maintained a middle school and, from 2002, a six-grade secondary modern school with full-day care. After 177 years, the last three Salesian Sisters left the monastery in 2015 and moved to Bad Adelholzen.

The monastery is located in Oberroning, a district of the town Rottenburg an der Laaber, in the federal state of Bavaria in Germany.

The two schools formerly operated by the monastery, a middle school and a secondary modern school, are now continued by the School Foundation of the Diocese of Regensburg. The building is protected as an architectural monument.
