Dietramszell Abbey

The first mention of Kloster Dietramszell dates back to 1107. It was likely founded before 1098 by Udalschalk, abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee, and dedicated to Saints Mary and Martin. In the 14th century, the monastery acquired its own land and in 1330 received the right of lower jurisdiction over its subjects and their properties from Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. Following economic difficulties, including a fire in 1766 and the effects of the Seven Years' War, the monastery was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization. Half of the complex became private property, while the other half initially served as a central monastery for the Poor Clares of Munich. From 1831, Salesian Sisters from Indersdorf occupied this part of the buildings. In 1858, the Salesian Sisters acquired the entire complex and operated a girls' secondary school there until 1993.

Kloster Dietramszell is situated in the Bavarian region of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen at an elevation of approximately 699 meters above sea level.

The former collegiate church of Mariä Himmelfahrt (Assumption of Mary), whose foundation stone was laid in 1729, is a significant example of Rococo architecture and was completed by 1741. It features frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, depicting, among other things, the founding story, the vision of Saint Augustine, and the heavenly concert of angels. The high altar painting shows the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. Sculptural works were created by Franz Xaver Schmädl and Philipp Jakob Rämpl. The church was declared a parish church in 1851, thus saving it from demolition. An organ by Joseph Pröbstl from 1848, restored in 1985, is also present. The parish church of St. Martin, built in 1717, now serves as the convent church.
