Dobbertin Abbey
Dobbertin Abbey, a listed historical site in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is idyllically situated on a peninsula on the northern shore of Lake Dobbertin. It is considered one of the best-preserved monastic complexes in the region and is connected to the village of Dobbertin by a park.
History+
The foundation of Dobbertin Abbey took place around 1220. It became one of the largest Benedictine nunneries in Mecklenburg. The earliest records name the Virgin Mary, John the Evangelist, and Quirinus as its patron saints. In 1572, the abbey was converted into a noble women's convent and developed into a significant economic enterprise in Mecklenburg until its dissolution in 1919.

Today, the renovated abbey provides accommodation for people with intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses. The historically preserved 'Damenhäuser' (ladies' houses), newly built workshops, and a school for individual life skills in the former cloister buildings characterize its current use by a diaconal organization.
