Echenbrunn Abbey

The foundation of Echenbrunn Monastery took place in 1122 by the nobleman Gumbert von Flochberg. The complex was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and was inhabited by monks of the Benedictine Order. In 1556, the monastery was dissolved by order of Elector Ottheinrich of the Palatinate. More than a century later, in 1672, Jesuits from Dillingen built a summer residence on the former monastery grounds, which later passed into the possession of the Knights of Malta. A rectory from 1732 now stands on the site of the original monastery building. Parts of the surrounding wall with a pointed arch gate might still date from the 16th century.

Echenbrunn Monastery is situated in the Echenbrunn district of the city of Gundelfingen an der Donau in Bavaria, Germany. The geographical elevation is approximately 434 meters above sea level.

A rectory, dating from 1732, now stands on the site of the former monastery. The complex is designated as a listed building in Bavaria, with parts of the historical surrounding wall still preserved.
