The Etropole Monastery, also known as the Monastery of the Holy Three Hierarchs, is a significant religious structure located east of the town of Etropole in Bulgaria. It is considered to have been an important spiritual center in Northern Bulgaria and attracts visitors with its historical significance and spiritual ambiance.

History+

The origins of the Etropole Monastery are believed to date back to the 12th century. Between the 16th and 17th centuries, it grew to become the largest spiritual center in northern Bulgaria. The current church building was constructed in 1859. The entire complex includes, in addition to the church, residential and farm buildings, as well as two chapels dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saints Cosmas and Damian. The monastery is recognized as a national cultural monument.

The Etropole Monastery is situated approximately 6 km east of the town of Etropole in the Etropole district, Sofia region, Bulgaria. It stands at an elevation of about 738 meters above sea level. In its immediate vicinity is the Varovits karst spring with a waterfall.
