The former Ettenheimmünster Monastery, a historic Benedictine abbey, is located in the Ortenau region of Baden-Württemberg. It was dedicated to the Mother of God Mary and today only remnants remain, yet it bears witness to a long and eventful history.

History+

The existence of Ettenheimmünster Monastery is documented from after 734. It was founded as a Benedictine abbey and existed for many centuries. After the wars of the 17th century, the complex underwent a Baroque renewal in the early 18th century and experienced a brief period of prosperity. In 1803, the monastery was dissolved as part of the secularization and its property was transferred to the Baden state. The buildings were subsequently sold and demolished over the course of the 19th century, so that today only a few ruins of the original monastery remain.
