History+
The first documented mention of the locality Frankenhausen dates back to 1271, when it was known as the knight's seat of a Heinrici von Vrankenhusen. In May 1276, Dietrich von Landsberg transferred the area to the nuns of Grünberg. They relocated their convent to Frankenhausen in 1292. After a fire in 1410, the monastery was rebuilt, with the monastery school and the prior's house dating from this period and remaining preserved to this day.
